I have been fortunate in my career to have attended numerous training courses...everything from 1" Sony VTR machines to "Dealing with Difficult People"! And part of my role as an Operations Supervisor at ITV Central was to ensure new recruits to the Technical team had the necessary skills to progress their careers and responsibilities. One of my most satisfying achievements from the 2000 refurbishment project to move Central from analogue tape to digital server operation was the delivery of a comprehensive training programme, much of it "in-house" from myself and colleagues who had undergone external "train the trainer" sessions.
More recently I have planned and delivered
training to the Technical Operations team at Sky for the new "Tapeless"
Sports Production system and the migration to the new Sky Studios
building at Osterley.
I'm not convinced today's entrants to the Broadcast Industry have enough basic knowledge of TV Principles...there's a lot of reliance on IT skills and background, but who's looking at the pictures and listening to the audio?
